Sudden Death from Asphyxia in a Phthisical Boy

چکیده
constant cough and pain in the chest had been present for five months. On my first visit to the wards after the boy's admission, I found him sitting up in bed, breathing rather rapidly, but not seeming much distressed, and in the act of expectorating purulent sputum into a receptacle already nearly full. There was marked dulness at the right apex, both in front and behind, and large moist sounds were heard over the upper portion of the same lung, accompanied by small crepitations. There was increased vocal resonance all over the remainder of the

Potential asphyxia and brainstem abnormalities in sudden and unexpected death in infants.
OBJECTIVE Sudden and unexplained death is a leading cause of infant mortality. Certain characteristics of the sleep environment increase the risk for sleep-related sudden and unexplained infant death. These characteristics have the potential to generate asphyxial conditions. We tested the hypothesis that infants may be exposed to differing degrees of asphyxia in sleep environments, such that vu...
متن کاملMultiple causes of asphyxia in infants at high risk for sudden infant death.
A wide range of clinical findings was present in 58 near-miss sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) infants and 6 surviving twins of SIDS siblings. Specific investigations included: studies of gastro-oesophageal reflux and aspiration (24-hour oesophageal pH recordings, barium swallow, radionuclide 'milk-scan'); polygraphic studies of breathing, reflux, and sleep state; studies of upper airways di...
